People say that ‘time flies when you’re having fun’. That’s exactly what happened to Barbara’s career in ESL/ELT. Barbara has been an active member of the ELT/ESL community in Brazil for the past 20 years. After graduating in Portuguese with a minor in Writing and later in Social Communication with a minor in Journalism, she founded and managed two language companies in Sao Paulo. Then, she became an ICELT-certified Teacher Trainer from the University of Cambridge (In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching) and she has been training teachers since then. She is also deeply passionate about coaching Business English students and running PD workshops for teachers.
Barbara moved to Canada two years ago and has been at ILAC ever since. Barbara worked as an ADOS (Assistant Director of Studies), Academic Campus Manager and, most recently, she’s taken the role of Director of Studies, overseeing all faculty and Academic staff in Toronto. She is now responsible for teacher support and training, and the on-boarding of new teachers.
Barbara believes that language coaching and learner autonomy are the keys to learning a language in today’s world. That’s why she’s so proud of being part of Vertices. When she is not working, she enjoys yoga, singing, journaling, cooking, and video-chatting with her loved ones (dogs included).
